The BBC answered over 10,000 complaints from the audience during September 2008.
These ranged from a small number of complaints about potentially serious breaches of editorial guidelines
through to a much larger collection of views about programme content and scheduling. The key
themes which emerged are as follows:
Offence - General
Some people complained in response to the EastEnders storyline of child abuse, which they felt
was inappropriate.
Insufficient Coverage
The Paralympics 2008 prompted complaints, where some people felt that there had been
insufficient coverage of the tournament in comparison with the Olympics 2008 coverage.
Offence to Religious Feelings
A number of people were unhappy with the EastEnders storyline where Masood Ahmed was
shown breaking his Ramadan fast.
Standards of Interviewing/Presentation
Some people complained about Eurovision Dance Contest, as they were unhappy with the
commentary during the programme.
