Complaints to the BBC: March 2008

The BBC answered almost 12,000 complaints from the audience during March 2008.

These ranged from a small number of complaints about potentially serious breaches of editorial guidelines through to a much larger collection of views about programme content and scheduling. The key themes which emerged are as follows:

Watershed:

Complaints were answered from viewers who believed the scenes of the character Max being buried alive in EastEnders tx 21 March were unsuitable for broadcast before the watershed.

Insufficient Coverage:

Complaints were answered from users of the BBC Health website who were unhappy with the removal of the complimentary medicine section from the site.

Scheduling: Complaints were answered from people who were unhappy that Doctor Who had been moved to an earlier time slot for its new series.

Sensitivity and Portrayal:

Some viewers were unhappy with Wonderland: The Curious World Of Frinton-On-Sea. Complainants felt the programme gave an inaccurate portrayal of the town.

Inappropriate Guest:

Complaints were answered from a number of Friday Night With Jonathan Ross viewers who felt Gillian McKeith to be a poor choice of guest.

Irresponsibility:

Some viewers took offence to Top Ground Gear Force, and felt it inappropriate to destroy property whilst raising money for Sport Relief.

Offence:

Complaints were answered from listeners unhappy that the presenter of Newsdrive read out a text from a member of the public which was offensive to supporters of Rangers FC.
