Complaints to the BBC: February 2008

The BBC answered almost 9,000 complaints from the audience during February 2008.

These ranged from a small number of complaints about potentially serious breaches of editorial guidelines through to a much larger collection of views about programme content and scheduling. The key themes which emerged are as follows:

Offence:

Some viewers took offence to the homosexual content and storyline in

Torchwood, and felt it inappropriate to broadcast scenes of this nature before the watershed.

Complaints were also received from viewers unhappy with a commentator’s use of the term

‘geeks’ duringMatch Of The Live: England v Switzerland.

Standards Of Interviewing And Presentation:

Match Of The Day tx 23 February attracted complaints from viewers who felt that studio analyst Alan Hansen was insensitive to Arsenal player Eduardo’s injury.

Poor Quality:

Complaints were answered from a number of BBC 6Music listeners who feel that The George Lamb show is of a poor standard.

Scheduling:
